A military general whose grand accomplishments lead to him becoming the first emperor of France May 18, 1804. Napoleon is known for his military skills and intelligence.

Napoleon was known as the country's "outstanding young commander". Napoleon was given the post the commander of the Army of Italy. When Napoleon first received the post the army was weak using what he knew he would build his army having many successes.

Napoleon's Rise to Power!!!
The main way Napoleon came to power was through his military ranks. After being appointed Commander of the Army of Italy for protecting the French Government from people who were against the revolution, he quickly began to gain a reputation known for his intelligence and war skills. After a couple wins and losses Napoleon became in charge along with two others of the "First Consul". While in charge of the First Consul Napoleon moved to reform economics, laws, and education. In 1812 everybody loved and knew of Napoleon and he began to pushed to be elected as France's First Emperor.

Major Contributions of Napoleon's Reign
The Napoleonic Code, produced an army with more than half a million men, acceptance of the Constitution, reforms of economics, laws, and education, Roman Catholic Church was reappointed the official religion, peace between France and other European countries, ended the French Revolution, the ideas of liberty, equality, structure of the social classes greatly impacted countries throughout Europe, established the Banque de France, expansion of France. The French revolution caused the questioning of people's rights.

The beginning of the Russian campaign that would end in complete disaster and Napoleons retreat in Russia because of the winter in Russia causing freezing temperatures, hunger, disease, and the violence and attacks from the Russians. He was imprisoned on the island of Elba March 20, 1814 and would later escaped from the island a year later. A year after his escaped he was defeated at the battle of Waterloo where he would then be imprisoned on an island father away from France in hopes of no way of him escaping called St. Helena.

In this document you should look for the respect given to the soldiers by Napoleon and the people of France, also the respect that should be given to the people by the soldiers. Throughout his Proclamation Napoleon says things that shows what being a soldier should mean to the government, people, and leader. He points out that being a soldier takes courage and patience. The document says the soldiers have done many difficult things without much resources and they are the only soldiers who could do this, for this they are grateful. This document also shows that Napoleon promised the journey to Italy.

In this document you should look for the ending of violence and hatred of others in France. Napoleon writes that although the times in France are getting better the government could put France back in to the times of "civil war and anarchy". This document says choosing who would become emperor was carefully thought out, and who would become emperor would have a big task. The Vote of the people was given to Napoleon. Napoleon was crowned emperor, he plans were to bring France back to it's traditions.

In this image you should look at the faces of the civilians, and their reaction to the soldiers pointing guns at them. Notice the civilians are unarmed, they had no way to defend themselves. The dead people on the ground suggest the soldiers are willing to kill if necessary. The stance of the soldiers shows the strength the soldiers had over the civilians. Overall I think this picture shows the fear the soldiers cause in the civilians.

In this document you should look for the rules of the alliance between France and the USA. Rules such as no alliance between Britain with France or the USA. France will give the USA the islands of Bermuda and the parts of the continent of North America that belonged to Britain before the Treaty of Paris. Neither France or USA could sign a treaty without permission from the other. No compensation could be received after the war.

In this image you should look at the way Napoleon is dressed, his clothing shows his power.The way Napoleon stands shows they way he sees himself, as a great and mighty ruler. His surroundings such as the sword shows his military abilities. Where Napoleon is at, his study points out his dedication to his work and his position as emperor.
